The Republic of Rwanda also known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, is a landlocked country situated in East – central Africa and bordered by Uganda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania. The country enjoys a cool climate with two rainy seasons (February to April, November to January).Average temperatures range from 16-22 degree Celsius,although close to the equator, due to its high elevation,of the terrain consisting of mostly of grassy uplands and gently hills. Abundant wildlife, including rare mountain gorillas, have resulted in tourism becoming one of the biggest sectors of the country's economy. The Republic of Rwanda as a personal safety, peace, security and stability enjoyed by both citizens and visitors of the country and the beauty of this nation, landscapes in this green country are truly breathtaking. Rwanda has five volcanoes, twenty-three lakes and numerous rivers, some forming the source of River Nile. Spectacular volcanoes and dense tropical forests dominate the north of the country, while gentle hills and valleys, calm lakes and turbulent rivers in both savannah and dense tropical vegetation dominate the rest of the country. The high altitude forests of the Virunga volcanic mountains, in northern Rwanda are home to the world’s largest number of endangered mountain gorillas. Numbering in the hundreds, the gorillas live in protected areas, free from poachers. The gorillas can be viewed in their natural mountain habitats at a fairly close range. Rwandan Visas: Every foreigner visiting Rwanda must have a visitor’s visa.Foreign Nationals wishing to obtain Rwandan Visas, submit their applications to Rwandan Embassies or Diplomatic Missions of their Country of residence for processing. In the case of those coming from countries where Rwanda have no Embassy or Diplomatic Mission, they should request for an entry facility on line which will be used to obtain a visa on any official point of entry in Rwanda. Our website is www.migration.gov.rw In view of the bilateral agreements, the Nationals of the following Countries may visit Rwanda without visa for a period up to 90 days: USA, Germany, Canada, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda, Mauritius, South Africa, Kenya, Great Britain, Sweden, Singapore, Hong Kong and Burundi. The visitor’s visa should not used for employment. REQUIREMENTS: A valid passport or other travel document (valid for at least six months) • One clear colored passport size photo with white background recently taken without glasses, caps and scurf; (the photo should be attached to the application form by use of glue stick. Stapling and clipping the photo to the application form is not advisable). • A complete filled application form downloaded from: www.migration.gov.rw • Visa application letter addressed to the director general of immigration and emigration • A receipt of payment of 25,000 rwf Any other document can be requested for more verification and information when necessary by the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration To avoid penalties, the applicant should apply/renew visa in time before expiration of current visa. Penalty fee is 20,000frw per month i.e 1-30 days of delay Validity of visa: three months/ renewable once with justification Once all required documents are submitted, the visa is issued after two working days.
